Grand Rapids Symphony

The prestigious BRAVO! awards are given each year to recognize outstanding leadership and contributions to the vibrant music community.

The Grand Rapids Symphony was planning to refresh its branding for the 2023 Bravo!, and give it new life and visual interest, while keeping it recognizable. The strategy involved using two of the letter forms as graphic elements. The "V" symbolizes conductor’s stage presence and the "O" represents a bow.

Besides the logo, the client needed an invitation package including a Gala invitation, RSVP card, Honoree Card, envelope, and a Program. In collaboration with Mind Over Marketing, the theme for the 2023 Bravo! event, titled "A Musical Masquerade," was created. A beguiling graphic reminiscent of “Phantom,” with a gold filigree eye mask and whimsical gold swirls was the perfect design element to elevate the event's atmosphere of sophistication, filled with opulent surroundings, quality wine, exquisite cuisine, and symphonic sounds.

The color scheme was vibrant, with deep turquoise and copper tones. The turquoise blue made a rich backdrop for reversed-out white text, while the logo in its full color format lent a different look to pages that had more of a white background. This ensured that there was a continuous visual appeal without the pages becoming overly dense or monochromatic. Carefully-chosen accent font gave just the right hint of elegance, while the body font allowed for easy reading.
